FAQ's and answers

image For questions about the UK itself, go to our About Britain page. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to contact us and ask whatever you like!

1. What happens if I need to cancel?

When you receive our first quote it will be accompanied with all our booking terms and conditions. To secure the booking we require a 20% non-refundable deposit. Other than this it depends when you cancel or move your booking. If you cancel less than 7 days before the trip takes place full payment will be required and will not be refundable. However, if you’re not able to take your trip on the booked dates, we will work hard to move the booking to another date for minimal extra cost.

2. Who books my flights or travel to the UK?

As a company we don’t book your travel to or from the UK, only your travel within it. Your package with us begins and ends in the UK or Ireland. We are however very happy to point you in the direction of the best deals and advise on where and how to book your flights. Just remember, the earlier you book the better deals you can find.

3. Which airport should I fly to?

Most international airports have flights to Heathrow in London. However, there are lots of international airports throughout the UK and it’s possible to get better deals to fly into many of them. It’s worth having a look around and take into consideration where you want to visit in the UK. It may make far more sense for example to fly into Manchester or Glasgow rather than London. If you’re unsure, please ask us.

4. Do I have to use public transport?

No, not at all. If you’re happy to hire a car for part or all of your trip then this can be an easier option for certain parts of the UK, particularly if you’re visiting the countryside. You simply need to specify that you would like to hire a car when you submit your itinerary.

5. Can I amend my booking?

You can amend your booking at any time but please be aware that the closer it is to the date of the booking the more likely there is to be a cost implication.

6. What if I only want you to book some of my trip?

The great thing about booking with us is that you are totally in control. You can book as many or as few of the elements of your trip with us as you wish. Simply let us know what you would like us to do and we’ll leave the rest up to you.

7.  Do I need insurance?

Yes! It is a requirement of booking with GBT that you have your own travel insurance. Whilst we and individual companies will have their own insurance, if for some reason you require urgent medical assistance, you lose your baggage or your flight home is delayed, it’s your responsibility to make sure you’re covered for all these emergencies yourself.

8. What guarantees do I have when I book?

Great British Trips is a trading name of Great Trips Ltd, a legally registered UK Tour Operator. As a result of an EC Directive, since 1993 all UK tour operators offering package holidays (including ourselves) have been subject to the Package Travel Regulations. The regulations provide financial protection for prepayments and require us to have cover in place which protects any payments you have made to us in the unlikely event of anything happening to Great Trips Ltd. For more information on our financial protection please click here.

9. What level of comfort will my trip be?

When you submit your itinerary to us for a quote, we ask you to specify the comfort rating you would like. The ratings are comfort, luxury and luxury plus. Comfort will see you staying in an average of 3* hotels and will be nice but not extravagant. This is a good option for those who are budget concious. For those with higher budget wanting a higher standard our luxury option provides a high standard whilst the luxury plus option is a no expense spared trip and will see you staying in 4 and 5* hotels, travelling on 1st class trains with the best possible frills and luxury experiences we can manage. 10. What if I want to stay at a specific hotel I stayed at before?

No problem at all. If there’s somewhere specific you would like to stay you simply need to let us know on your itinerary form. We can’t guarantee quite as good a deal as at our favourite hotels but we will work hard to get you the best possibly price.

11. Will I find a better deal elsewhere?

The answer to this is simple. We are the only people who provide a complete on-line information, itinerary builder and booking service for a 100% tailor made tour in the UK. You will not find a 100% identical tour anywhere else on the web which makes our prices the best. In addition to this, the deals and discounts we have worked to make on your behalf mean that by booking the exact same trip yourself it will probably cost you a lot more, making this a fantastic deal for the vacation of your dreams.

12. How soon do I need to book?

You can book whenever you like. However, we produce an itinerary based upon current availability and waiting to book often results in loosing good prices, the hotels of choice and things can be sold out so we always recommend booking as soon as possible. Your flights will also be cheaper.

13. When do I pay?

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking. After this full payment is required 60 days before the start of the booking date. If you would prefer to make monthly payments this can be arranged too, please ask us about this option.

14. Do I need to pay for anything extra?

When you check into your hotel you will often be asked for identification and a credit card. Although the reservation is already paid for through us, the hotel will require a credit card for any expenses incurred such as telephone bills or use of the mini-bar. All of the items included in your trip will be individually listed in your trip pack. If you have requested hotel transfers, these will have already been taken care of. If you have not, you will be required to pay for taxis or other transport yourself. Tips are also not included in your trip price so these are discretionary and down to individuals to decide.
