Did you know that the latest Star Wars Film - the Force Awakens had a number of exterior scenes filmed at destinations in the UK and Ireland? Here is the fans definitive guide.Puzzlewood Forest in the Forest of Dean was the film location used for the lush forested planet of Takodana where the main characters in the film - Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) would come face to face with Stormtroopers from the First Order and the Dark warrior Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Puzzlewood has also also been used as a film location for the Hollywood movies Jack the Giant Killer and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.

Whilst the character scenes on Takodana were filmed at Puzzlewood; the Lake District was also used to make this fictional planet come to life in the film with the backdrop of the beautiful Derwentwater being used for the air battle scenes involving the First order and the Resistance X-wings. The final scene in the film featuring Mark Hamill playing Luke Skywalker once again is set on the Island of Skellig Michael located 8 miles off the coast of County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. Skellig Michael is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is expected to be used in the next instalment of the Star Wars saga. Image credit
