Your Journey into the Heart of the Seven Kingdoms
When the directors of HBO’s award‑winning fantasy series set out in search of the perfect setting, Northern Ireland quickly emerged as an obvious choice. This land boasts a rich folklore and mythology that may well have influenced the world of Game of Thrones. Legends of fairies, giants and dragons abound here, and some are thought to have inspired characters and creatures from the series.
The Glens of Antrim in particular bear striking similarities to the fictional realm of Westeros portrayed in Game of Thrones. Spectacular landscapes, ruined castles and a history marked by clan rivalries vividly evoke the universe imagined by George R.R. Martin.
Let our expertise itinerary you through the real‑world Seven Kingdoms as you visit the series’ key filming locations, all while soaking up the wild, untamed beauty of Northern Ireland’s landscapes.

YOUR TRAVEL GUIDE

County Down: the Realm of House Stark
With its rugged roads and snow‑dusted mountains, County Down is said to have inspired the author of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is also home to some of the series’ key locations, including Winterfell and the Linen Mill Studios, where nearly a third of the final season of Game of Thrones was filmed.
Explore the Ards Peninsula, the Mourne Mountains and the Lecale Peninsula, and uncover numerous doors, symbols and hidden references to the series along the way. As a bonus, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent scenery in one of Northern Ireland’s most underrated counties.

Belfast
In Belfast, visit the Ulster Museum and its spectacular 80‑metre tapestry illustrating all eight seasons of the series. Located in the heart of the Botanic Gardens, in the central Queen’s Quarter, the museum is perfectly placed to be combined with other great addresses in the capital.
To stay in a cinematic mood, don’t miss Belfast’s other iconic sites that have inspired numerous films rooted in the city’s history, such as the Titanic Belfast Museum and the striking murals depicting the era of the Troubles.

County Antrim: Land of the Iron Islands
County Antrim boasts the highest concentration of filming locations, including the now‑legendary Dark Hedges (the King’s Road) and the harbour of Ballintoy, which stood in for the Iron Islands. Follow the breathtaking Causeway Coastal Route from Belfast to Derry to discover these iconic sites.
Beyond its walled city and colourful murals that bear witness to a turbulent past, County Derry also reveals stunning landscapes: endless beaches and rolling grasslands that made it the perfect stand‑in for the Dothraki Sea.
