Visiting Scotland’s national parks
In Scotland, as in many other parts of the world, the national parks are veritable treasures. A deer watching you from behind a tree, the lapping of the lochs, a waterfall at the bend in the path, the orange leaves in autumn…
Nature in Scotland is full of surprises, which travellers can discover in the country’s two national parks.
Cairngorms National Park
Scotland only has two national parks, but rest assured they have plenty to keep you busy on your Scottish holiday!
The Cairngorms National Park is home to Scotland’s six highest mountains.
Mountains, forests, rivers, lochs, villages… The Cairngorms are a true haven of nature for lovers of the great outdoors.
If you’re a sporty type looking for a new activity, the Cairngorms are a real playground. In spring, opt for a bike ride around the lochs or through the Glen Tanar forest, and don’t forget your picnic!
You may be lucky enough to spot a wildcat, an endangered species that lives in the Cairngorms, or a golden eagle.
Many ospreys and red deer also live in the area, so keep an eye out!
In summer, take advantage of the park’s landscapes to go hiking and explore the Scottish countryside.
Explore the magnificent Craigendarroch, the ‘Rock of the Oaks’, where you can enjoy magnificent views over the River Dee.
In autumn, during the off-season, admire the superb Loch Morlich, surrounded by mountains and forests.
This timeless place offers breathtaking views! It’s not for nothing that the park has been named one of the 20 most beautiful places to visit in the world…
Are you a keen photographer? There’s one place in the National Park that’s not to be missed: Glas-Allt Waterfall.
This 50-metre waterfall plunges into Loch Muick. The setting is wild and magical.

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park
Explore the magnificent region of the Trossachs and Loch Lomond. Snow-capped mountains, mysterious woods, hills and villages, an immense lake… The Trossachs are sure to charm you!
At the heart of the park, you’ll find Britain’s largest lake: Loch Lomond.
Fancy a romantic stroll? Climb aboard a rowboat and cruise the waters of the lake: the perfect romantic setting…
If you’re keen on water sports, you’ve come to the right place! Kayak, canoe, windsurf… Discover the lake in different ways!
The Trossachs National Park is not just home to one loch. And although Loch Lomond is quite unique, there’s a second loch just around the corner that’s well worth a visit: Loch Katrine.
The best way to discover Loch Katrine is to take a steamboat cruise on the famous SS Sir Walter Scott.
Not keen on the sea? You can hire a bike to take you on a 20-kilometre ride along the surrounding paths.
The Trossachs are a hiking paradise!
