What Is Portmeirion?
Portmeirion is a private village created by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1973. Inspired by classical, baroque, and Mediterranean styles, it’s a bold design experiment that’s also a real place to explore and stay.
Despite its Italianate appearance, Portmeirion is proudly Welsh. Perched on the rugged Dwyryd Estuary near Porthmadog, it’s a cultural icon, famously featured in the 1960s TV series The Prisoner.
